THE SEVEN ENERGY CENTRES
(CHAKRAS)

Chakra means 'wheel' in Sanskrit, referring to the energy wheels in our body. They are spinning discs that are designed to be open and flowing, connecting our spirit to the biological body. They help regulate our cardio, digestive, and immune systems. The energy centres hold memories, emotions, and our connection to all things in the universe and beyond.

We will start from the bottom, moving up. At the end are meditation sounds to help activate chakra cleansing.
ROOT CHAKRA
Colour - red

Where it is found - at the very lowest part of the spine, the coccyx

The root chakra is all about survival and the connection between our bodies and the earth. It is the part of us that deposits anything no longer serving us into the earth to be transmuted. From here, we can gain an understanding of our basic needs. Imagine yourself as a wild woman or a caveman! That is the you being projected by the root chakra.
A trauma during your birth or any trauma that has threatened your survival may have kept this chakra blocked.

To unblock - try letting go and moving to the Five Rhythms Dance.

SACRAL CHAKRA
Colour - orange

Where it is found - lower abdomen, the womb space
The sacral chakra is about intuition and desire. It is the power behind creation (i.e. the creation of life happens here). When we take action in a way that didn't seem logical but worked for us, that is us listening to the intuition of the sacral chakra.
Any pains associated with the feminine will show up here.

To help clear the chakra, meditate on the area of the womb and nourish the body with good meals (including aphrodisiacs) and warm baths.

SOLAR PLEXUS
Colour – yellow
Where it is found – just under the ribcage, upper abdomen
The solar plexus is known as the 'career' energy centre. It is where we find strength in ourselves to make life decisions and forge a path ahead of us. It is where we find personal power in following the mission we came to earth with, doing so with clarity and perseverance.

When this chakra is blocked, we may notice self-judgement or feel judged by others.

To heal the solar plexus, protect personal boundaries (see Protecting Yourself for more tips).

HEART CHAKRA

Colour – green

Where it is found - heart

This is love. It is the centre for your heart connections, and the place from which you nurture yourself and others. In fact, it is the centre of the chakras, connecting the lower root, sacral, and solar plexus with the higher throat, third eye, and crown - which are said to be our heavenly realms. The heart is the space where spirit truly meets body.

We all know the term 'a broken heart' right? When you have been hurt deeply on an emotional level -- that will clog up the heart chakra.
To unblock - try Rebirthing - a very powerful meditation.

THROAT CHAKRA

Colour – blue

Where it is found – …the throat
The throat chakra is all about expression. It is the part of us that needs to be speaking our truth and releasing old wounds by communicating calmly and maturely, balancing what we say carefully with the heart. Most people live in the bottom three chakras, and it is said that open, flowing throat, third eye, and crown chakras lead to higher dimensions of thought.

When we have been told 'children should be seen, not heard', or someone has made us feel ashamed of our truth, the throat chakra becomes blocked.

Singing and chanting can work wonders in healing the throat chakra, as can talking more about our truth in a safe environment (i.e. therapy / journalling). You can also make sure to repeat positive affirmations every day.

THIRD EYE

Colour – indigo

Where it is found – between the eyebrows
This is where we hold our psychic abilities, receiving messages from the divine. Even if we do not think we are psychic, we are always picking up on little symbols or patterns that repeat themselves in our life until we seek healing. When it opens up fully, wisdom of the Akashic Records (the information on everything past, present, and future) is accessible to us.

The third eye is fuelled by the pineal gland, which for many of us has been blocked by toxins in our water / food / television programmes.

To open up the third eye chakra, MEDITATE. Also try - eating fresh fruit and veg where possible and using a water filter.

CROWN CHAKRA
Colour - violet

Where it is found – the tip of the skull and beyond
The crown chakra is the ultimate victory of any spiritual quest. It is the literal crown of kings and queens, asking us to claim our sovereignty and our place in the world. The one who wears their crown has been on the journey of tarot through from the Fool to the World card - a complete symbol of life's journey. This is where the divine filters down into our bodies.
We know when we are feeling anything less than divine, our crown chakra is blocked. It requires the most faith from us, and the sacred union of our masculine and feminine, light and dark, yin and yang.

To unblock - the crown chakra opens when we heal the other chakras. It is the final door to understanding ancient wisdom and universal secrets, but first requires all the other energy centres to be in alignment. Check out Sacred Healing London for sacred union meditations and healings.

Here are some beautiful sounds to lay back and listen to. They activate your chakras:

Most people live in the bottom three charkas. This is why we get butterflies on a first date, our stomach churns before an important meeting, and we feel sick when we see a spider. By bringing ourselves up into the awareness of the heart, throat, third eye, and crown chakras, we become loving, truth-speaking, knowing sovereigns. We are capable of facing our fears by combining our connection to our bodies (root) with intuition (sacral), good judgement (solar plexus), love (heart), speaking our truth (throat), becoming aware of universal signs (third eye), and knowing we are divine (crown).

A kundalini awakening is the free movement of energy moving up through the seven chakras until it lifts the crown off our head! It is often depicted as two serpents moving up spine, which are guarding sacred knowledge until we have awakened. The soul journeys through many lifetimes, often taking a long trek through a dark night of the soul, to eventually ascend through a kundalini awakening. A lot of people are experiencing this now because of the earth coming having been in such a dark phase -- this kind of darkness is a catalyst for our ascension. It is necessary before we may know our true selves and the full force of love.
Serpents are hugely symbolic. Take a look at medical logos for pharmacy, veterinary, dentistry etc... All show two serpents travelling upwards. Added to that, of course, we have Adam & Eve and the serpent in the garden of Eden, unlocking knowledge, more serpents on the crowns of Pharaohs in Ancient Egypt, and so on...

One final note: the world has been terrified of the feminine for the past few thousands years, burning 'witches' and keeping women from any position of power. Isn't it a little bit of a coincidence how a LOT of people have extreme phobias of the animals most associated with the deep feminine? Think snakes, spiders, octopuses (no, it's not octopi), and others...
